The very first all day in-service training was offered to CASA Nashville advocate volunteers yesterday. It was held right across the street from CASA at the First Church of the Nazarene on Woodland.
The training was led by a team from Adventureworks. Adventureworks is a company that helps people with team building, leadership, communication, problem solving, and more. Their motto is “Do good. Work smart. Live well. Laugh often.” A couple of wonderful people from their team led the volunteers in a variety of activities and conversations. They created a space in which the volunteers could express themselves, grow, and connect.
One volunteer, Joan VanReese, shared with everyone that she became a CASA volunteer because, although she might not always have the right words to say, she will always be a safe haven for the children she serves. Claudia Humphrey, another CASA volunteer, said that before she meets with a family or goes to a hearing she prays and she finds herself praying a lot for patience and strength during her cases. It was really inspiring to see the bonds created between the volunteers and to hear them opening up and learning from each other. We really hope to have more events like this for our volunteers in the future.
